Does your fireplace look bare now that the Christmas décor is down and packed away? I have a solution! Let’s create a cozy winter mantle with this Pom Pom and faux lambs ear Garland.
It’s so pretty; you’re going to love it!
My big mutt Chewie loves it too. Okay, truth be told he’s probably more into the heat coming off the fireplace but if he could talk I bet he’d say “the garland is snazzy”. ( He seems like the kind of dog who would use the word SNAZZY in a sentence.)
And I’m sure he’d also say “Hey lady put down the camera and give me that dog biscuit you are holding in your hand.” #cameraladytricks

CREATING THE POM POM WINTER GARLAND
The main ingredient is chunky white yarn.
I needed two skeins of yarn but to be honest my other dog, Ray the wonder mutt, helped in that because he ran off with several pom poms. He’s quite the little decorator.
Thanks for your help Ray.
Any hooo, for starters, I attached 7 small removable adhesive hooks to my mantle. My favorite brand is the 3m Command hooks.
I measured the width of the mantle and evenly spaced 5 hooks on the front, 1 on each end and 3 in the middle. I also placed 1 on each end in the back. You can see in the picture above.
I then draped my yarn making small and wide loops.
HOW TO MAKE POM POMS
Pom poms are easy to make with the chunky yarn because it doesn’t take much yarn to make them full and fluffy.
Start by placing a short string between your fingers. The string will be used to tie it off.
Then wrap the chunky yarn around your fingers a few times and secure it with the string.
Next cut the tail and cut the loops. Lastly, give the little ball a hair cut to shape it up and its done!
I used a needle and fishing line as thread to string the pom poms together and make make a chain. I made two smaller chains instead of one big one because it was easier to work with that way.
ADDING FAUX LAMBS EAR
Now that the pom poms are up, I added this faux lambs ear that I purchased from a craft store.
Mine came as one attached bundle so I cut it into several stems. I laid out my stems and used craft wire to attach them together as a chain on lambs ear.
I added a few more hooks to my mantle and wired the faux lambs ear to hooks.
GLITTER PINECONES
The pinecones on the mantle were created by spray painting plain pinecones white and adding glitter snow to them.
I painted the pinecones with white glue. (I use Elmer’s school glue because it works and it’s cheap)
Then I sprinkle on the glitter or roll the pinecone in a bowl of glitter.
I like to use the glittery snow flakes in a bag that is sold at Christmas time because its way cheaper than glitter. I’ve used glitter but it takes a lot so it can get pricey.
The last thing I did was to add a battery operated light string on the top of the mantle with the glitter pinecones.
And that’s it! It is easier than it may have sounded, I promise.
Happy Creating,
By the way, you’re going to want to pass on sipping from those mugs set up by the fireplace. They look inviting but the dogs have given them a thorough licking.
Oh Ray!

I’m a sucker for pom poms! This looks so pretty. Makes me wish I had a more picture-perfect fireplace setup! Visiting from Talk of the Town party.
Jenny I love the pom pom garlands! Thanks for the tute. I will have to try it. Your dog is hamming up the photos, so cute! I will feature this Thursday at HSH. Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
Thank you some much Sherry. Yes the dogs are big camera hams. They’re normally rambunctious but they have learned that treats come when the camera comes out. They think every photo shoot is about them even when it’s not.
This is so beautiful!
Thank you Bobbi!
