Today I’m talking about my progress in the $100 makeover challenge, bathroom lighting and vintage mirrors…
The kids have been home from school another week due to the bad weather and from the looks of my house, it would appear my little bathroom lighting dilemma is the least of my design issues. Holy moly! 2 weeks, 2 dogs, 2 teenage boys, and I’m wondering “do I decorate this place or just burn it down?”
I’m kidding, the boys and I are enjoying this time together but being stuck in the house for a few weeks has confirmed… clearly, we are not neat freaks.
Despite the cleanse my house desperately needs right now, I’m trying to stay focused on the task at hand… Complete the $100 decorating challenge.
Bathroom Lighting for Under $100
If you read my last past (bathroom refresh begins), you know I’m making over my half bath and the entire makeover can not exceed $100.
I’m still running down a rabbit hole of ideas on this one but the look I’m going for is a mix of modern & vintage with a touch of art deco.
For bathroom lighting, my first thought was to change out the shades the way I did in my master bathroom last year.
I borrowed two of those shades and swapped out what I had but the result was underwhelming.
It’s not bad but it could be so much better.
The next step was to search the internet for some cheap bathroom lighting. I found lots of great options but all of it over my budget. Then I found this at target…
It was on sale for $44.99
I think this is the winner but I do have some reservations. For one, the globes are HUGE. As I pulled it out of the box I couldn’t help but think, “well this gives the term boob light a whole new meaning” and then I mentally nicked named my new fixture “The Dolly Parton”.
I’m waiting to get a few more elements in the space before I decide if Dolly stays or goes. We’ll see.
Cheap Bathroom Mirror Possibilities…
I also went antiquing this past week and by antiquing I mean, I dropped by my mom’s house and raided her basement.
I pulled up a fabulous vintage gold mirror that is a strong candidate for the bathroom project.
It needs some work but I think I can transform it into something wonderful.
I also raided my own basement and I’m embarrassed to say I found about 10 more mirrors down there. Half of them I forgot I owned and almost all of them I don’t remember how I got in the first place.
I know, I need to clean out my crap cave but you have to admit sometimes collecting a little vintage junk comes in handy.
I’m waiting to get the walls done to see what will work best. Hopefully I’ll have those knocked out in the next few days.
