It’s week 4 of the One Room challenge otherwise known in my house as pizza week. This is the week I attempt to do all the things I could not get done in 3 week’s time and try to do them in 1 week’s time instead. Because that makes sense right? I’m not sure if all the art & tasks will get done but one thing is for sure, after this week, the pizza delivery guy and myself will be on a first name bases. Okay, I’m kidding, we were already on a first name bases.
So what needs to get done this week? Well let me tell you…
Art Work
Okay this is a fun task. Last week my son told me. “Mom, whatever you do, just don’t put letters spelling my name on the wall.” That was never in the plan but since the kid clearly doesn’t trust me, I thought I would have a little fun with him. I found a snap shot of him and came up with this Photoshop design in the style of Warhol pop art. I will be painting this for my first painting.
He said not to use his name but he never said I couldn’t use his face! “Pop Art Josh” coming this week.
Last night I stretched and gesso’d my canvas. Painting begins tonight!
By the way, the reason I didn’t buy a ready made canvas was because I wanted a specific size that wasn’t available in the premade canvases at the store .
Stretching your own canvas is easy. The frame pieces come in a variety of sizes and they all fit together with each other.
Once you put your frame together, cut your canvas to size, stretch around the frame and staple.
I start in the middle on each size and work my way around the frame stretching as I go. The corners are last. Once your canvas is on, you paint a layer of gesso and you’re good to go.
I have a 2nd really fun painting planned too. That will be a surprise.
Walls
I will wrap up the pop art wall. It is 90% done. and I have a second wall design I plan to start on. I hope to complete the 2nd wall and paint the comic lines on.
Bed
I’m also in the process of building a bed. If I can pull it off it should be pretty darn cool y’all! Here’s a hint, it will involve these tiles.
Dresser
Along with the bed, I need to wrap up the dresser that started out as this piece of junk. It doesn’t look that bad in the photo but trust me there’s been so much to fix on this guy that me and Mr. Dresser are not friends right now.
I have fixed a lot already but the drawer will require me to build a whole dove tail drawer side. That may be happening after the challenge. The dresser is in the garage waiting for his new plaid paint job! We may become friends again if it turns out.
The artist desk I have is still in pieces as well. Fun huh?
Accessories
I have some accessories I want to make but I’ve also begun to collect items from the store. Lamps and bedding are still needed but I have managed to collect few fun knick knacks.
We’ll see if they make it into the final plan.
(Just a personal note: I wanted to sincerely thank every one for your kind words of encouragement on week one when I mentioned my husband had gone into the hospital that night. I was taken back and deeply touched by your kindness. We have a long road ahead but he has come home and we are continuing to work daily with doctors and specialists to get his body well and hopefully walking again one day. We remain hopeful.)
Don’t forget to pop over to Calling it Home and check out my fellow ORC participants week 4 progress. They are seriously an incredible bunch!

What a cool wall and love the pop art!
That Pop Art!!! Wow…what a great piece for his walls. He has got to be so excited with how his room is coming along! Has he seen any of it?
Jennifer, Your boys are sure lucky to have a mom who’s so creative. This room, like the other room, is going to be spectacular and I can’t wait to see the reveal!
It is so awesome to see this space coming along! Can’t wait for the final reveal!
Okay. First, that wall! You are SO talented. And I love your pop-up art idea.
I think these next two weeks might be daily pizza night as well. There’s so much to do, and no time to get it all done.
Wow! I love it all! The mural is looking amazing!
Wow I love Andy Warhol! I can’t wait to see your reveal! You are so creative.
