It’s Fall Y’all, are you ready? Nope? Me neither. But ready or not fall is here! So today I’m teaming up with 17 of my blogger friends for a fall wreath blog hop. 17 fall wreath ideas should help us get into the spirit of fall don’t you think? For my wreath creation, I decided to pass on the traditional fall colors and create a neutral toned white pumpkin fall wreath. Leaving out the orange is my secret protest for summer abandoning us. Shhhh, don’t tell fall.
White Pumpkin Wreath Supplies…
To make my wreath I started with a simple grapevine wreath.
Ok truth be told, I didn’t start with a simple grapevine wreath. I started by pulling up all the wreathy like supplies from my basement and dumping them on every possible flat surface in my kitchen. Once my kitchen was successfully trashed to the level of kitchen trashing overachiever, I then settled on a simple grapevine wreath. Feel free to skip the kitchen trashing step.
The next step was to eradicate the orange from the fake pumpkins and leaves I found in my craft stash. To do this, I gave the pumpkins and oak leaves a light coat of white spray paint.
When I brought the pumpkins back in the house, removed the stems and set them on a wire (cut up coat hanger) to make it easier to paint them. Then with craft chalk paint, I painted them blue, cream and a coral orange color. When the pumpkins were dry, I added a second white wash coat of paint to mute the color even more and create that milky effect. I also made sure I got lots of paint on my hands and arms. You can skip this step too but you may not feel as artsy without it.
The final step in the pumpkin preparation was to hot glue the stems back on and replace the heavy wire with a thin wire and more hot glue. The thin wire will help when you are ready to secure the pumpkins to the grapevine form.
Next, I grabbed a few magnolia leaves and gave them a coat of chalk paint. To create the white washed look, I painted the tops of the leaf and then wiped off the excess paint with a paper towel.
Fall Wreath Assembly
Before I began wiring and gluing items, I tucked little pieces of moss in the grape vine wreath and set out the leaves and pumpkins to get an idea of how it will all look.
Don’t forget to leave room for a bow. Check out my bow tutorial if you need help.
The final step is to glue and wire it all down.

Wow! I love how you white washed everything to tone down the colors but didn’t block them out completely. So smart (and apparently really easy, if you don’t mind paint on your hands). Love it!

Love your wreath! It turned out beautiful! I really like the lighter chalk finish on the pumpkins, and the way you did the chalk paint on the leaves as well.

Jennifer, How did I miss commenting on this earlier? Your wreath has the perfect colors that I’m using this fall in our house. I’m going soft and muted. You did an outstanding job, my dear!

Jen, I am not ready for fall yet either. Where the heck did the summer go? For that matter did we already have spring? LIfe is moving too fast here, I can’t catch up. I love orange, honest I do. It’s one of my favorite colors. But for me, it’s a bit played out as fall decor. So I really love this wreath. I never thought about actually covering it up with paint. DUH! I paint everything else, why not pumpkins? The colors are so lovely, and it’s fall like without being cliche, the best kind! xx

Hi Jenny,
You did an amazing job transforming the traditional orange pumpkins into something stunning. This wreath looks absolutely beautiful on your front door. Oh…and I start every project the same way. Everything comes out as I sort through what I am going to use. The house always looks worse before it can look better. 🙂

I had a similar experience with my wreath dumping out all of my craft bins and pulling apart previous wreaths. lol Love the colors you used and the outcome is just gorgeous!! Yay for repurposing!
Lynn Spencer says
Hey there girlfriend! Like there was ever a doubt, but your wreath is gorgeous! Love the muted tones, especially against your front door. It’s that kismet thing, meant to be. And just the wee bit of the brighter green peaking out is perfect!
Lovely, Lovely!
Wishing you a fantastic weekend.
Hugs, Lynn

Jenny, I love, love, love your colors for your wreath! It looks awesome hanging on your door, too! And, I totally agree…I do not feel artsy if I am not covered in paint, and I don’t think you can be creative without making a mess!
