Get ready because it’s time for a thrift store throw down! What in the world is a thrift store throw down you ask? Well, it’s a type of upcycle challenge where myself and 15 other bloggers agree to scour our local thrift stores for 15 dollars’ worth of second hand treasures. Then we pack our not so precious gems in a box and mail them to our special blogger victims friends.
Yeah, it’s basically a crap swap. But it’s not just any crap swap, it’s a creative, upcycle waiting to happen, crap swap. With the items we receive, we are challenged to upcycle our questionable treasures in a clever or interesting way.
We have all received our mystery boxes and next Monday we will reveal how we upcycled the thrift store items. Sounds like fun wouldn’t you agree?
The Mystery Thrift Items I Received
My mystery box came from Paula of Virginia Sweet Pea blog.
Have you seen her work? It’s pretty amazing, check out some of these great projects….
DIY 2×4 Bench, Goodwill Desk Makeover and my personal favorite Media Cabinet Makeover ! (It’s pretty cool, you need to see it!!)
Not only is Paula a blogger, But she is also a 6th grade teacher! She teaches by day and runs her very creative blog in her free time. But I’m not sure when she has free time because Paula is one busy lady! When she’s not in the workshop doing DIY projects and furniture make overs you will find her either in the kitchen, working in the yard, jogging, playing with her dog, or at the gym.
Oh my gosh, Me Too Paula! I mean the play with the dog part, of course. As for the kitchen, yard work, running, and gym thing, you’re on your own there. Oh and the part where you do meaningful superhero type work as a middle school teacher. But other than that we are totally twinning.
Possible Upcycle Items
So shall we talk about what Paula sent me? She was really kind and went pretty easy on me.
First I pulled out this little Donna Dewberry one stroke special. I have no idea what it’s true use is. What’s your guess for this hanging wooden box ?
Next I pulled out this neat wooden bowl-ish type of dish / tray thingy.
Okay, this bowl is really cool so I’m not going to do a darn thing to it. It’s a keeper. It looks great on my bedroom dresser and my husband has already claimed it for his pocket change. Plus, it has Hawaii carved on the bottom of it and I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii. So I’ve been telling everyone its from that amazing vacation I took when no one was looking. Thank you for the gift Paula. Aloha!
Lastly, we have some lovely fine art complete with hanging loop. It’s how all the masters use to do it.
And it must have been BOGO day at the thrift store because I got TWO fine art pieces! Bonus.
The Plan?
I don’t know what I am going to do with these items and being the planner that I am, they are still sitting in the box. No worries, I’ll think of something. Unless of course you think of something first, then by all means do share and leave me a comment.
To see what thrift items I picked out and dropped in the mail, head over to Shepherds and Chardonnay. I can’t wait to see what Jeannee makes with the box of junk I sent her. I just hope she doesn’t hate me after this.
Don’t forget to check out all the blogs in the Thrift Store Throw down!

Now I’m off to go jogging. Okay, I’m kidding. I’m off to go sit on the couch and eat Oreos for breakfast. Hey, those Oreos are not going to eat themselves you know. And then after I fuel up I have to run back to the farm and feed all the animals. I am playing zoo keeper this week while my Mom, Dad, brother, sister and her family are all on vacation. It’s okay that they all went without me because after all, I just got back from Hawaii. And I have the dish to prove it! lol Well at least my sister’s property is beautiful this time of year.
Just a couple of yesterday’s shots from the farm… : )
