You may have noticed that I keep talking about my need to get the rest of my house finished. I was able to get a lot done the first few months of moving in but then I sort of stalled out. We have all been there right? Well, I have been in that stalled state for way to long and I’ve come to the realization that I need a swift kick in the pants to get moving again. I decided to let Linda from Calling It Home be that much needed boot. For the last several years she has challenged bloggers to pull their rooms together and get it done with her 6 week one room challenge. Guest bloggers joining the challenge will post for the next 4 Thursdays on the progress of their rooms. The 5th Thursday is the completed room reveal! Doesn’t that sound fun!!! There is nothing like a little pressure to get you moving, huh? The clock starts now!
Teen Boy Room Makeover
I will be working on my son James’ room. His room is rough. What is in there now was always meant to be temporary till I had a chance to refinish the furniture I had in mind for him. It’s time to get that done and give this teen boy a real room.
Here is the inspiration board I put together for his room…
The Plan for This Challenge
- Paint
- Create a wall mural of some sort
- Refinish furniture for him
- Build him new desk
- Make a window treatment
- Make new Art work
- Maybe purchase bedding
- Maybe purchase new lighting
I have what in need for the first several items. Those tasks will mostly be time and hard work. The last two items however are a different story. Those may require funds and I don’t have funds so we will see what I can do to make that all work out.
Now for the cringe worthy before photos. Don’t judge. Darling son keeps waiting for the maid to come even though I have repeatedly told him she quit a long time ago. I guess I could have made the bed but at this stage why bother, it’s all coming out.
Pretty awful I know. But join me next week to see the progress. It can only get better right?

Love the shark theme, I think it will work really well. I revamped my sons room last year and gave it a cactus theme which he really liked.
Wow, you’re creating a mural? How awesome. Can’t wait to see it all.
Tiffany holy cow my little bedroom is going to be nothing to those amazing spaces you are working with. 2 rooms! You go girl. I already love all your choices, I can see already I am going to be drooling over your spaces.
Hi Jenny, love the mood board for your son’s room! Can’t wait to see what mural you paint. Given your crazy mad skills there is no doubt that this will be a room fit for a king! Thanks for your encouragement to join is as well. It’ll be fun!
Thanks Lynn. I am so glad you are in this with me! The time frame and deadline has me nervous, I have to admit. I look forward to your Mud room progress. You have quite the mud room already!!
